    Special Cause - Rainforest

We here at Black Dahlia strive to make this a true community, and in doing so, we've decided that we will offer special edition medals available through charitable donations to various causes throughout the year.

"The forest is a peculiar organism of unlimited kindness and benevolence that makes no demands for its sustenance and extends generously the products of its life and activity; it affords protection to all beings."
    - Buddhist Sutra
"The Amazon rainforest is on fire. Some reports suggest that as many as 9,000 new wildfires have started in the rainforest over the last week. And, while forest fires in the Amazon are not a new phenomenon, the number of fires currently burning and affected land area are unprecedented. The Amazon produces 20% of the Earth’s oxygen. Not only do the wildfires threaten to disrupt our production of oxygen and Earth’s delicate elemental balance, but they are also affecting countless groups of indigenous people and endangering the rainforest’s rich biodiversity." - Charity Navigator

You can either donate to one of the charities below, or you can search for another charity dedicated to raising funds to aid in recovery from the wildfires in the rainforest.
We recommend donating $5 USD or more if you can.

Rainforest Action Network - "Rainforest Action Network preserves forests, protects the climate and upholds human rights by challenging corporate power and systemic injustice through front-line partnerships and strategic campaigns. RAN works toward a world where the rights and dignity of all communities are respected and where healthy forests, a stable climate and wild biodiversity are protected and celebrated."

Rainforest Trust - "Established in 1988, Rainforest Trust works around the tropics to strategically purchase and protect lands vital for endangered species and indigenous communities. We specifically target the most threatened tropical habitats that are critical for preventing species extinctions and that are exceptionally rich in biological diversity. Celebrating 30 years of lasting conservation action, we are proud to have saved more than 20 million acres of tropical habitat across 53 countries in 150 protected areas and wildlife reserves."

You can find other related charities by searching on Charity Navigator.
